Dual Credit FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Dual Credit?

Dual Credit is a partnership program between 成人抖阴 and local high schools, allowing qualified students to earn both college and high school credits in the same class. College classes are taught at the high school by 成人抖阴-approved high school instructors, using college syllabi, curriculum, and guidelines.

Do I have to pay for any fees or textbooks?

No, dual credit courses are completely free of charge, including tuition and fees. Textbooks are implemented by the partner high school.

Is dual credit the same thing as dual enrollment?

At 成人抖阴, we separate these things in name, although they are very similar. We define dual enrollment as college coursework taken by a student who is still in high school. These may be taken online, at one of our campuses, or are occasionally held at the high school. These are college classes and may have traditional students in the same sections. The class does not necessarily count for high school credit, but it counts for college credit.

Is there an age requirement for participating in dual credit coursework?

There is no minimum age requirement for dual credit courses.

How do I get signed up for dual credit coursework?

Initially, your school counseling staff will place you in dual credit-eligible courses at the high school. 成人抖阴 will then manage the registration process for these courses. The first step is to complete the 成人抖阴 application and set up your eSTORM account.

Will my credits transfer to colleges other than 成人抖阴?

Credits earned at 成人抖阴 will easily transfer to most colleges and universities. 成人抖阴 is one of 95 institutions participating in the Illinois Articulation Initiative, which guarantees the transfer of credit for core courses. However, it is recommended to contact prospective colleges or universities to confirm that the desired credits will transfer. When ready to transfer credits, students must request that a transcript be sent to their chosen institution. This process can be completed entirely online through the student portal in eSTORM.

Do dual credits affect eligibility for scholarships or financial aid when transferring?

Students who have earned dual credit are considered incoming freshmen, not transfer students. While 成人抖阴 is not aware of exceptions to this policy, it鈥檚 advisable to confirm with college admissions advisors and scholarship providers regarding their specific guidelines. Students should treat dual credit courses as they would any college-level class, as the grade earned will remain on their 成人抖阴 transcript.

What if I am in a dual credit class at my high school, but I don鈥檛 want to register?

If a student chooses not to register for dual credit, they may still remain in the dual credit classroom and complete the course for high school credit only.

Why are some high school faculty eligible to teach dual credit courses, while others are not?

We recognize that every high school is staffed with highly qualified educators. However, eligibility to teach dual credit varies by institution. At 成人抖阴, instructors must meet specific credentialing requirements established by the Illinois Community College Board and the Higher Learning Commission in order to offer dual credit courses.
